Project Description

WOODLAWN TOWNHOUSE DEVELOPMENT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District and the City of Birmingham partnered up with Alabama Power and local developers to launch Smart Neighborhood, an initiative to provide energy efficiency and automation upgrades to the home construction in an effort to make energy usage more affordable for low-income families.

The Woodlawn Townhouse Development features eleven (11) of the first 200 smart homes in Birmingham under the initiative. Each unit will have three (3) bedrooms and 2 ½ bathrooms. Driveways to each townhome were designed using permeable concrete grass pavers allowing stormwater runoff to percolate back into the ground and reducing the need of a detention pond.

Efforts are being coordinated with other architectural disciplines to provide a comprehensive design.  Engineering services include topographic survey, civil site design, site grading and drainage plan, erosion and sediment control plans, utility systems design, civil construction details and construction administration.
