BX BRT WEST TRANSIT CENTER

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Birmingham Xpress (BX) is a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that serves the Birmingham communities and the surrounding areas. The system includes the creation of a ten (10) mile transit corridor aimed to deliver fast, reliable and cost-effective mobility services among neighborhoods.

The BX BRT West Transit Center serves as one of the major stations where passengers can transfer between the BX system and the local bus service, MAX. The West Transit Center seeks to integrate into the community through a public plaza and its architectural character. The plaza helps control water runoff through diversified plantings. The project also included a Transit Station that provides passenger amenities along with small support spaces for Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJTCA).

Efforts were coordinated with other architectural disciplines to provide a comprehensive design. Engineering services include civil site design, site grading and drainage plan, erosion and sediment control plans, utility systems design, civil construction details and construction administration.
