BIRMINGHAM CIVIL RIGHTS CROSSROADS

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Birmingham Civil Rights Crossroads is a transformative infrastructure project that weaves together history, mobility, and community in the heart of Birmingham. Spanning 3.2 miles through the historic Civil Rights District and the Smithfield neighborhood, the project aims to reconnect communities through multimodal trail systems, enhanced transit corridors, and culturally significant public spaces.

Dynamic Civil Solutions is proud to serve as the lead firm, providing full civil engineering services and leading the development of construction documents. Our role also includes conducting comprehensive existing conditions surveys and guiding utility coordination and drainage design. Working closely with an interdisciplinary team of architects, landscape designers, planners, historians, and community engagement specialists, DCS is helping to deliver infrastructure that not only meets modern transportation needs but also reflects the historical and cultural legacy of the area.

More than just a transportation project, the Birmingham Civil Rights Crossroads initiative is a community-centered investment in equity, access, and storytelling. The design is deeply rooted in the character of the neighborhoods it serves—enhancing safety, walkability, and connectivity while honoring the powerful legacy of the civil rights movement. With sustainability, beauty, and inclusivity at the forefront, this project sets a new standard for infrastructure that is as meaningful as it is functional.
