SCHOOL OF NURSING

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

With an increase demand for an educated nursing workforce, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, was constructing an addition to the existing School of Nursing to accommodate its student and faculty population. The project allowed the School of Nursing to plan for long term growth to its educational, clinical and research programs in a modern and state-of-the-art facility. The proposed development demolished 24,000 gross square feet from the eastern portion of the first floor of the existing School of Nursing Building and construced a new five story classroom and faculty office tower, with approximately 72,500 gross square feet of space, in its place.

Efforts were coordinated with other architectural disciplines to provide a comprehensive design. Engineering services included civil site design, site grading and drainage plan, erosion and sediment control plans, utility systems design, civil construction details and construction administration.
