EAST QUAD CENTRAL ENERGY PLANT
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The University of Alabama (UA) relies on thermal energy to provide high
quality and affordable utility services across its Campus. In order to sustain
the continued growth and comfort of the University community, the need to
secure a highly reliable, efficient and readily expandable Central Energy Plant
became apparent. The $18 million East Quad Central Energy Plant houses
heating and cooling equipment that provide hot and chilled water to a variety
of buildings across the UA campus. A new distribution system was routed from
the energy plant to various buildings along street segments, sidewalks, and
pedestrian areas.
DCS was retained as the Owner’s representative for traffic control related issues
for the development of the New Central Plant. The scope of services included
a campus wide assessment of the project’s impact to transportation services
(vehicular, pedestrian, handicap accessible routes, emergency and public
transit routes) and the implementation of a transportation management plan to
mitigate the project’s impact to the University’s transportation network.
