DISTRICT STEAM SYSTEM

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) relies on steam energy to
provide high quality and affordable utility services across the UAB Campus,
Hospital and research facilities. In order to sustain the continued growth and
comfort of the University community, the need to secure a highly reliable,
efficient, and readily expandable steam distribution and condensate recovery
system to replace the obsolete supply piping became apparent. The new
distribution system routes from the Central Steam Plant to the various buildings
on Campus along street segments, sidewalks and pedestrian areas.

Dynamic Civil Solutions was retained as the Owner’s representative for
Transportation and Traffic Control related issues for the development of the UAB
District Steam System Program. The scope of services provided included an
assessment of the project’s impact to campus transportation services (vehicular,
pedestrian, handicap accessible, emergency and public transit routes), traffic
control plan design reviews submitted by the Contractor and regular construction
traffic control review and compliance.
