BRIDGE REPLACEMENT OVER CR-120
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Funded and administered under the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP), this bridge replacement project involved the demolition of an existing two-span, 94-foot-long structure—comprising a concrete deck with treated lumber stringers, timber bents, and vertical abutments—and the construction of a new three-span, precast girder bridge. The upgraded bridge measures 120 linear feet in length, 28 feet in width, and accommodates two lanes of traffic, thereby enhancing safety and capacity for local motorists and commercial vehicles.
In addition to the superstructure replacement, the project included the geometric design of roadway approaches, focusing on horizontal and vertical alignment as well as optimal drainage solutions to protect the integrity of the new structure.
Engineering services included comprehensive plan and profile development, cross-section generation, and specifications for bridge components. Erosion and sediment control measures were integrated to preserve water quality and minimize environmental impacts during construction. With a total construction cost of approximately $600,000, design efforts were completed in 2015, and the new bridge opened for traffic in 2016, providing a more robust and reliable transportation link for Greene County residents and businesses.
