NORTHEAST QUADRANT DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project consists of planning and design services to support grading and stormwater improvements within the Northeast Quadrant of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. The approximately 65-acre area is identified in the Airport Layout Plan and Master Plan for future aviation development and includes existing detention facilities, graded stockpile areas, and portions of the FEMA-mapped floodplain. The effort is focused on enabling future development by establishing appropriate grades, managing stormwater runoff, and addressing floodplain considerations while maintaining compatibility with airport operations.
DCS is providing overall project management, existing conditions evaluation, grading and drainage design, stormwater modeling, floodplain coordination, and integration with airport planning documents. DCS is also coordinating geotechnical investigations, utility considerations, and constructability constraints associated with long-term airfield development.
